EU VHF Contest 2016 - SV5DKL/p - South Rhodes - QRA Locator: KM35UW
There goes another adventurous and fruitful ham radio weekend !!
This year I'd decided I needed to get a bit off HF contests, while at the same time HF propagation was decreasing rapidly. Well, that was an excellent chance
to test my new VHF setup.
EU VHF contest was really very accomodating, as it would suit my working site, too!
After careful planning, I decided to participate in 2m Single SSB/CW with my Kenwood TM-255E @ 50w , 2x 7 element DK7ZB 28Ohm yagis stacked vertically in horizontal polarization and a 180Ah car battery. A marvellous, VHF favoring location was spotted at South Rhodes, on top of a hill 225m a.s.l. that houses a wind turbines park. QRA Locator: KM35UW , being a rare one for most of you !!

On Saturday, July 2nd, at noon, everything was ready and set up, and while I was waiting until 1400z for the contest to start, I thought I'd shoot some photos for my friends:

This creature was more or less 20 cm in diameter !!!

The height of the wind turbine next to my "temporary radio shack" is approximately 65-70 meters with a wing span of 30m ... and believe me ... it makes a hella of a noise !!

NEW QSL POLICY
Have been giving it a thought over and over again, during the past few months, so decided to update my QSL policy, regarding all my assigned callsigns.
My new policy just had to be in line with my amateur radio motto:
Having already updated the related QRZ.com registration pages for all of my assigned callsigns, my new QSL policy update, effective since May 15th, 2016, should be posted on this blog, as well.
1) I no longer collect paper QSL cards, so it not necessary to send me yours, unless you wish to.
2) Each Monday I upload last week's logs to LoTW, Clublog, eQSL.cc and once every few months to QRZ.com logbook.
3) I will still use the outgoing QSL services of RAAG's QSL Bureau.
4) If you really need my paper QSL card, it's best to use my OQRS direct request, as it's fast, secure and most reliable. Just visit: https://secure.clublog.org/logsearch/SV5DKL
5) I have enabled OQRS for the following callsigns: SV5DKL, SV1DKL, J41DKL, J41Y, SX5R and SV5/SV1DKL.
6) If you choose to proceed with an OQRS Bureau request, bare in mind that it may take 0.5 - 2 years till you receive my card.
7) If you are not able to use OQRS system, you can either send me a direct QSL request via my QRZ.com snail mail address, or just e-mail me the QSO data you would like to receive a paper QSL card via the bureau for. Direct QSL requests are usually answered in a week's time from delivery.
8) Every incoming QSL card will be answered the same way it arrived.
9) For special calls I have used in the past (J41DKL, J41Y, SX5R) please don't use the bureau, due to services restrictions of RAAG's QSL bureau.
Everyone that follows this QSL exchange policy is definitely going to get a QSO confirmation.

Electronic and free awards
This is getting more and more popular!
Many Special amateur radio events provide free pdf downloadable awards, for every operator who fulfills the respective requirements.
One needs only insert his callsign in the log search page, click, and if liable, download a nice and free award for his collection.
